The market is awash with gourmand fragrances, just like the old Shadow Play theatre is awash with flirtatious women. But Zenne by Nishane, just like its namesake character in said performances, stands as the summation of all their best qualities. Beauty, confidence, liveliness, and falling head over heels with joie de vivre itself. It’s Murat Katran’s and Mert Guzel’s tribute to the love for art and for life.

Sweet and tart fruits alike, animalic, salty muskiness, and creamy sweet vanilla mingle to produce Zenne. The aphrodisiac composition by perfumer Jorge Lee takes a frothy mousse of whipped vanilla and crushed rhubarb sprinkled with blackcurrant syrup on top, dark and tart. This recalls grenadine cocktails sipped with fancy straws, somewhat coquettish on a warm terrace somewhere posh.

This refreshing quality in a gourmand scent is novel, as well as quite tenacious, and differentiates itself beautifully from hundreds of other sweet vanilla fragrances. With Zenne you’re born along the trail of the femme fatale, all the while merging that indefinite line between East and West; a multicoloured mosaic, or a palimpsest, layer upon layer of nuance and meaning.
