Rosa Ribes

Rose | Blackcurrant | Chypre

The scent of blackcurrant buds is peculiar. Catty, ammoniac stuff when raw, but it lends a delicious tartness and lift to rose flowers. For this reason Sarah McCartney married the two essences in Rosa Ribes, the latter word being the botanical name for blackcurrant.

The perfumer is crazy about Ribena and all things currenty apparently, since her tiny garden not only holds blackcurrant bushes but also raspberry canes too. In creating this effortless and elegantly light floral chypre she goes one better on an idea we first saw in Ombre Dans L’Eau by Diptyque.

Fresh and delicate, with just a drop of oakmoss absolute and of sweet, earthy patchouli, it’s like a glimpse of a party in the garden through the gauzy drapes of a British salon. This is the scent to pick for when you’re feeling nostalgic and delicately feminine.
