Imitation | Convincing | Oud?

Oud, without Oud.

NOOUD, pronounced Nude, is a complete recreation of the complex fungal-woods from the Aquilaria tree, known as Oud. This material is prized, but unfortunately also is over-harvested, as was the case with Mysore sandalwood.

Spyros Drosopoulos has offered a solution by building the scent of the material from the ground up. He has used this oud accord as a base in some of his other fragrances, but due to its wonder and complexity, here, he offers it solely. The beginning, in particular, is very realistic with a vivid, leathery oud character. It becomes woodier and cedary as it dries down, but in a way that brings further dimension to the fragrance as it unfolds.

It’s a very convincing achievement and would probably fool most apart from perhaps the most hardcore of oud aficionados. Many consumers are not aware how many notes are constructed by perfumers who are using little or none of the material itself. By openly declaring this, NOOUD is an artistic statement on the craft of perfumery, not to mention, a proud accomplishment for Spyros.

Being Extraits, Baruti fragrances should only require 1-3 sprays per wearing.
