Product Information

All written content on this website and our Social Media platforms is sourced from either official sources or our own writing. ‘Our Verdict’ signifies that we have assessed the fragrance and given a summary based on our own experience and evaluation. If a customer’s assessment of a product differs from our own, this may be due to a number of reasons, including, but not limited to:

Age of product and oxygenation. Fragrances, particularly niche fragrances that include high levels of complex natural materials, can vary in smell and performance depending on the time inside the bottle and their exposure to oxygen. Most fragrance houses will allow their fragrances to macerate before release, and the time can vary between houses. A fragrance inside a sample vial will have been exposed to more oxygen than a brand new bottle, and rarely, but sometimes, may smell and perform slightly differently. We recommend using a new bottle of perfume a few times to introduce some oxygen which will allow it to ‘awaken’ and smell as the perfumer intended.

Natural variation. Natural materials can vary in smell depending on when and how they were harvested, distilled and processed. Whilst perfumers will always try to account for subtle differences when preparing a new batch of fragrance, there may still be variations in the final product.

Skin. Depending on the level of oils, acidity, pores etc, fragrances can perform and smell differently on different individuals. We always suggest to sample a fragrance first where possible. LKNU always tries to assess fragrances both on skin and on a blotter card.

Weather. External influences such as heat and humidity can heavily influence how a fragrance smells and evaporates and performs.

Olfactory Fatigue. If you believe a fragrance to be weaker than expected, or lacking in longevity, you may find that your nose has become fatigued of particular notes or molecules. Ask a friend or family member how it smells to them, or give your nose a rest from fragrance for a few days if possible and try again. Applying fragrance to the neck or chest in particular, is a common cause of olfactory fatigue, as is over-application.

Anosmia. Most people are anosmic to at least some molecules. Many people cannot smell all musks, for example, due to the large size of the molecules themselves. Perfumers will often use multiple types of musks so that the fragrance can be experienced by as many people as possible. If you perceive a fragrance quite differently to others, it could simply be that you unfortunately cannot smell a main ingredient in the fragrance.

Subjectiveness. We always aspire to describe a fragrance as objectively as possible, however due to the strong connection between olfaction and memory, there will always be an element of subjectivity. We always strongly suggest that you sample a fragrance for yourself before purchasing.

Video and Podcast Reviews

As with the above paragraph, our video/podcast reviews are based on our own experience and evaluation, and we encourage you to test or sample for yourself before purchasing.

Our Opinions

Any opinions expressed are done so in good faith, and are intended to assist our customers with finding the right fragrance. We will never intentionally discredit any brands or fragrances and any facts stated are researched as thoroughly as possible. Where any speculation occurs, we are open to correction. Please contact us if you feel that we have listed any incorrect information.

Pre-Orders

We generally offer pre-orders for incoming new products and restocks. This allows our customers to secure a bottle when stock is potentially limited. An estimated date is given on the product thumbnail but this may be subject to change.
Please note that any orders containing pre-orders will be shipped once all items are in-stock. We will not partially fulfil orders. If you wish for in-stock products to be dispatched immediately, please order these separately.

Brand Descriptions

Product descriptions and listed notes are generally sourced from the brand's official information. These descriptions are often based around the brand's inspiration and creative intentions, and due to perfume's subjective nature, may not always reflect the experiences of each customer. Official notes or note pyramids are not to be interpreted as an ingredients list, as many different raw materials may be used to create the perfumer's impression of a specific note or accord. For example one perfume's rose accord is very likely to contain a combination of multiple natural and synthetic materials and is highly unlikely to smell the same as a rose accord found in another perfume. With these factors in mind, we suggest that you sample before purchasing.

Safety & Allergen Precautions

At LKNU Parfumerie we do our best to bring to you perfumes that are safe to wear. At the same time, it is impossible to predict allergic reactions in individuals to a specific ingredient or ingredient combination.

If you have allergic tendencies, please wear your perfumes with caution and test it on a small area of the skin first to make sure that the perfume is safe for regular use. If you develop any allergic reactions, stop using the product immediately.

Following these simple rules will ensure you are using perfumes safely and appropriately:

  • All our perfumes are flammable. Do not apply near fire, flame, heat or while smoking.
  • For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not swallow or take perfume internally.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Do not apply to sensitive skin. Do not apply to broken or inflamed skin. If irritation develops, reduce frequency or discontinue use.
  • Avoid wearing on areas that are exposed to the sun. Many of the essential oils and alcohol present in most perfumes could cause a rash or burning when the skin covered with this oil is exposed to the sun.
  • If you develop any allergic reactions, stop using the product immediately.
  • If you have sensitive skin, please wear the fragrance on clothing or fabric.

Packaging

LKNU wishes to advise that many independent and artisanal perfume brands have lower budgets and operate on a much lower scale than many mainstream or larger niche brands. Therefore, their emphasis will sometimes be on the quality of the fragrance itself, rather than packaging, bottle design, branding and presentation. Some fragrances will be packaged in ‘generic’ bottles with a hand-made label, and therefore, you can be assured that the cost of the fragrance is simply for the product inside. Conversely, some brands will take great pride in their packaging and LKNU believes that there is a place for both in our range, as well as everything in between.

Faulty Atomisers

If you receive a new fragrance from us and the atomiser spray is faulty, please let us know and we will send a replacement and organise a return for the faulty bottle.
If the atomiser becomes faulty after a reasonable period of purchase and use, LKNU cannot be held responsible for replacement. We have compiled a list of suggested methods that you can use to attempt to repair a faulty sprayer. Please undertake these at your own risk. We cannot guarantee that these will work.
  • Soak the sprayer in very hot water for ten seconds or so. Isopropyl alcohol or similar may also work to dissolve any blockage in the nozzle.
  • Hold the bottle upside down and see if this clears any blockages when spraying.
  • If you can detach the head of the sprayers, check for any debris/dried liquid.
  • Try replacing the head with another that fits and see if it works.
  • Obtain a 10mL syringe (without needle). Remove the sprayer head. If it doesn't fit over the bare tube at the top, use a screwdriver or similar to widen the plastic at the syringe tip.
  • You can try pushing some air into the bottle to see if it clears a blockage
  • If not, a last resort would be to use the syringe to extract the liquid and decant it into another empty perfume bottle.
