Petitgrain
Distilled from the leaves and twigs of citrus trees, petitgrain is a common component in colognes and other citrus fragrances. Usually petitgrain is derived from the bitter orange tree, but occasionally, other citruses such as bergamot, lemon or mandarin petitgrains can be used.
Its scent is green, woody, fresh and bitter and can be used to evoke images of orange trees, as opposed to simply the fruit. Petitgrain shares some similarities with neroli, which is much more expensive and has a finer, more delicate aroma.
